Greetings from the Brethren Witness/Washington Office:

Day of Action to Shut Down Guantánamo cosponsored by Amnesty International and the National Religious Campaign Against Torture

From NRCAT… Protests are being planned across the country for Jan. 11, 2008, the sixth anniversary of the opening of the Guantánamo prison. NRCAT is co-sponsoring events at the Mall in Washington, D.C, and at Foley Square in New York City. The Church of the Brethren Witness/Washington Office is an endorsing partner of the National Religious Campaign Against Torture.

Start planning now for how you will participate in the International Day to Shut Down Guantánamo on Friday, January 11, 2008.

Regional Events:
NRCAT, along with Amnesty International, are co-sponsors of the demonstration on the National Mall in Washington, DC.

The day will begin with a rally at the National Mall. The demonstration will start at 11:00 a.m. on the Mall at 12th Street, directly across from the Smithsonian Metro Stop. We suggest you arrive early to get an orange jumpsuit. Speakers will include NRCAT's Executive Director, Rev. Richard Killmer, and Rabbi Gerry Serotta, Chair of Rabbis for Human Rights, North America.

The demonstration will be followed by a “March of Prisoners” to the Supreme Court Building.

WEAR ORANGE ON JANUARY 11TH!
Wherever you are on January 11th, we encourage you to wear orange to raise public awareness and strengthen the movement to demand an end to torture and indefinite detention.
