Greetings from the Brethren Witness/Washington Office:

Earth Sunday April 22, 2007! Theme: The Food that Sustains Us

Earth Sunday is on April 22, 2007. As Christians it is a time to reflect, discuss, and take actions that are necessary to protect and sustain God's beautiful creation. The theme this year is "The Food That Sustains Us" and attached is an important resource packet for Earth Sunday. This packet, "Our Daily Bread: Harvesters of Hope and Gardners of Eden," explores the need to put the Spirit of God back into the life giving acts of producing and consuming food. The resource acknowledges the brokenness of current policies, practices, and habits, and lifts up opportunities for the redemption of all of creation through more mindful choices. Includes background information, sermon starters, ideas for youth and adult study, suggestions for individual and congregational action, sample liturgies, and a bulletin insert, as well as an opportunity to engage your elected officials concerning the farm bill.
