We are sending the following action alert on behalf of the Center for Arms Control and Nonproliferation, a 27-year old sister organization to the Council for a Livable World. Please call your member of Congress ASAP and urge them to prevent supplemental appropriations funds from being used to attack Iran without Congress's authorization.

STOP FUNDING FOR AN ATTACK ON IRAN

URGENT ACTION NEEDED TODAY (WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14)

On Monday night, Rep. Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic leadership decided to pull language from the Supplemental Appropriations bill, which stated that no funds may be authorized for military operations in or related to Iran unless specifically authorized by the Congress -- in effect the Democrats' pullback continues to abdicate Congress's war-making authority to the Bush administration. We DO have a chance to reverse this in the House Appropriations committee, but we need you to make phone calls to your congressional representative TODAY.

TALKING POINTS

• I'm calling from (city, state) to urge (your representative's name here) to stop a rush to war with Iran.
  
  
• I urge Representative (their name here) call on the House leadership and the House Appropriations Committee to reinstate language in the Supplemental Appropriations Bill that would require the president to seek congressional approval before launching military action against Iran.

The Supplemental Appropriations bill is scheduled to be marked up in full committee Thursday (MARCH 15) at 9 am. Please call your congressional representative ASAP. Even after that time you might be able to make a difference. Although calls made today will have the greatest chance of success, you can keep calling your congressional representative even after Thursday to try to change the bill once it reaches the floor of the House.
