Brethren Witness/Washington Office

(via e-mail)
March 15, 2007

Greetings From Brethren Witness/Washington Office:

This action alert is being sent to everyone on our e-mail list but is particularly important for those attending the Christian Peace Witness this Friday, March 16. If you are not able to join us we ask that you take time to pray for peace on this 4th Anniversary of the start of the Iraq War.

Friday:

Plan to arrive at the National Cathedral at 5:45 to get in. SEATS ARE NOT GUARENTEED!! There will be additional gatherings outside the Cathedral and at New York Avenue Presbyterian. Also, be sure to bring the printed ticket from the website with you, as you will need it to get into the Cathedral.

Directions to the Cathedral:

The closest metro stations are Tenleytown-AU (1.2 miles), Cleveland Park (1.2 miles), Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan (2.1 miles), and Dupont Circle (2.3 miles). All of these are between a 15-25 minute walk to the National Cathedral. The walk from the Tenleytown-AU station to the Cathedral is downhill, and has the most frequent Metrobus connections (see below).

If you would prefer not to walk, you may take Metrobus from any of these Metro stations. The Cathedral area is serviced by the 30-series and 90-series buses. Please see the trip planner link above for more detailed information tailored to your specific route. Exact bus fare of $1.25 is required.

Directions to New York Avenue Presbyterian

Public Transit: METRO Orange and Blue Line station MCPHERSON SQUARE (14th Street exit) and Red, Orange, and Blue Line station METRO CENTER (13th Street exit).

This option is highly recommended for those worried about the 2 plus mile walk from the Cathedral to the White House. This walk is only 4 blocks.

Go to www.nyapc.org for more info on getting to the church.

The worship service starts at 7:00. Following the worship service the march will gather around the Peace Cross on the Cathedral grounds. Look for signs saying Church of the Brethren to organize to walk together to the White House. Once at Lafayette Park, look again for the signs to gather as a group. We will try to be at the corner of H St and E. Executive Ave.

Saturday

There will be a breakfast for CoB folks at the Washington City Church of the Brethren at 9 am – a time for fellowship and to hear from Art Gish, a CPTer just back from Iraq.

Directions to the church via metro:

Take the orange line to the Capitol South stop. Turn left onto D Street and walk 3 blocks. D turns into North Carolina, and the church is on your right.

Following breakfast, Phil will walk those interested to the Vietnam Memorial for the Saturday March on the Pentagon.

Note from General Secretary, Stan Noffsinger (Stan had hoped to be with us this weekend but his schedule would not allow):

“Please share with the CoB participants that our voice must not be drowned out by apathy or fatigue! Sisters and Brothers in Christ around the world are calling Christ's Church especially here to speak unceasingly for peace, peace that transcends the warring of our nation.

I will hold each participant in the event this weekend in my prayers. May your witness shine brightly as those whose name bears the name of the one we follow as disciples of Christ.”
