Decade to Overcome Violence
Colombia

Nestled at the top of South America, Colombia a beautiful, vibrant nation plush with ecological masterpieces and cultural diversity. Unfortunately, Colombia is also an immensely troubled land. Over the last four decades, various factions have been participating in a brutal civil war. This has caused massive civilian casualties and displacement. Over two million Colombians have lost their homes and their livelihoods due to this raging battle.

As if a violent civil dispute is not enough, there are a multitude of mitigating factors in both Colombian and US economic interests that fuel this cycle of violence. The Colombian military has one of the worst human rights records in the world, and they perpetuate much of this violence. In an attempt to gain footing in a "war on drugs" the US provides billions in economic aid to the Colombian military and funds crop fumigation. This, in turn, displaces the Colombian people and the cycle of violence and climate of fear continues.
