A steady stream of Conferencegoers lined up Monday afternoon to express their appreciation to Judy Mills Reimer, outgoing executive director of the General Board.

"You've worked tirelessly for the church," one well-wisher said, "and I can't thank you enough."

In addition to Reimer's five-year tenure as general secretary, she has served the denomination as chair of the General Board, moderator of Annual Conference, and pastor of a congregation in the Smith Mountain Lake area of her native Virginia.

"It has not been easy, but I think we've turned a corner," Reimer said, offering her own thanks to those who filed past for all the work they have done and continue to do for the church.

Along with her husband George, Reimer will be dividing her time between their home in Virginia and a new house in Florida. "I'm looking forward to spending time with my family," she said.

Earlier in the day, Conferencegoers saluted another departing General Board staff member — director of Interpretation Howard Royer, who is retiring in August after 50 years of service with the General Board.

Royer was the keynote speaker at Monday's Brethren Press breakfast, sharing a series of stories of the church through words and images. "Stories bind the generations together," Royer said. The time closed by singing the chorus of "Blessed Assurance": "This is my story, this is my song . . ."
