MEALS WITH A MESSAGE

Judy Mills Riemer
As guest speaker at the Messenger Dinner,
Judy Mills Reimer, Executive Director of the
General Board, shares her perspective on
the "state of the church"
Three major dinner events took place simultaneously Sunday evening, with full rooms gathering for the Outreach Dinner, featuring Christian Commission for Development leader Noemi de Espinoza of Honduras; the Cross-Cultural Dinner, with lively music, prayers, and litanies from a variety of ethnic groups; and the Messenger Dinner, with speaker Judy Mills Reimer, executive director of the Church of the Brethren General Board.

Music from the Bittersweet Gospel Band highlighted sharing in the Cross-Cultural meeting in a festive atmosphere. Messenger editor Fletcher Farrar thanked all the subscribers and contributors to Messenger, and Reimer later gave an address on "The State of the Church," highlighting all the excitement and energy in the denomination as well as the challenges ahead. And in Outreach, de Espinoza talked about CCD's work in Honduras and presented Brethren Witness director David Radcliff with a cross in appreciation of the Church of the Brethren's support.

Other major meal events will continue through the remainder of Conference, with CoBACE and Disaster Child Care celebrating 20th anniversaries at Monday luncheons, a Church-as-Mission dinner featuring DominicanRepublic missionaries Gerald & Rebecca Baile Crouse Monday evening, an EcumenicalLuncheon with National Council of Churches general secretary Robert Edgar Tuesday, another Church-as-Mission Dinner and the Brethren Revival Fellowship dinner Tuesday evening, and many others.
