The 1999 Ministerial Leadership paper is the denomination's official polity paper on ministry. It provides a biblical foundation for ministerial leadership, defines licensed and ordained ministry, describes the nine areas of ministerial leadership, and provides a process for receiving non-Brethren ministers who desire to serve in the Church of the Brethren.

The 2000 Ministerial Leadership Manual, which can be ordered from Brethren Press contains the major ministry papers adopted by Annual Conference, and more than a dozen ministry papers produced by the Office of Ministry.

A ministerial leadership study-guide, produced by Brethren Press as part of the In Our Midst series, contains four sessions designed primarily for Sunday Church School classes:

  1. A theology of leadership in the Church of the Brethren
  2. Ministry is open equally to men and women
  3. Calling of ministers by congregations and districts
  4. Ministerial Education in the Church of the Brethren

phone  Ministry Summer Service is a 10-week summer experience for college students who want to test their call to the ministry by serving in congregations, church camps, district offices, urban ministries, denominational office, etc. Click here for more information or call the Office of Ministry or the Youth and Young Adult Office (800-323-8039) to have them send you a colorful brochure.

An easy to read view book on Calling Leadership: Calling and Educating Leaders in the Church of the Brethren may be ordered by calling Bethany Theological Seminary (800-287-8822) or the Office of Ministry (800-323-8039).

The Women in Ministry Resolution adopted by the General Board in 1999.

In February of 2001, the Office of Ministry mailed a new video--"How Are They to Hear"--to every congregation and district office in the denomination. The 50-minute, 5-segment video is based on Romans 10:14-15, and is designed to help congregations identify and call men and women to the ministry. To obtain a copy, please contact a Church of the Brethren pastor, a District Executive/Minister, or the Office of Ministry.
