Shantilal P. Bhagat

Shantilal P. Bhagat, is a consultant for global missions in the Church of the Brethren. He formerly was director of eco-justice ministries for his denomination. For over two decades he has been actively involved with the environmental and economic justice concerns of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA. He has served as the denominational Non-Governmental Organization representative at the United Nations since 1978 and has participated in many UN conferences including the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil (1992) and the Climate Change convention in Berlin (1995). He holds academic degrees in agriculture and agronomy and is known throughout ecumenical Christian circles as a dynamic promoter of justice for the poor and the disadvantaged. In addition to three books, he has authored and edited study/action resources for congregations on the care of creation, world hunger, US homelessness, and racism. He is the writer/editor of the Church of the Brethren environmental newsletter Between the Flood and the Rainbow.
