Pentecost Offering

A special Pentecost – 300th Anniversary offering for the Church of the Brethren
Suggested dates: May 11 or 18, 2008

Dear Pastors and Church Leaders,

“I promise new life,” God tells us, “a new heart and a new spirit.” (Ezekiel 36:26)

Just as the wind and fire of Pentecost drew together and strengthened Jesus’ followers, through God’s spirit we can speak and work as one voice. That is what this very special 300th Anniversary/ Pentecost season offering is all about – celebrating and coming together in Christ. A gift from all of us to the whole church for the new day!

The way this special offering will work is quite different than any we have conducted recently. When the offering is received, your congregation will keep one third for local ministries and within thirty days forward the rest to the General Board. The General Board will then gather together all the offerings that are sent by your district churches and return one half of that total (2nd third) to the district office for district ministries. The final third of the offerings will then, after expenses, be shared in various amounts with several other denominational ministries.

We hope and pray that this will be about new life and one spirit-filled voice within the Church of the Brethren. We encourage 100% participation by congregations across the country, be it $3, $30, $300 or $3000 - to symbolize the 3 life-changing centuries of continuing the work of Jesus together. We hope and pray that your participation will be about your new life and the vital work of the entire church. New winds of Pentecost are blowing as we enter our 4th century. Can you feel the spirit?

So please encourage everyone to participate, and use our resources for thought starters in your worship and to collect offerings. Ask us for additional materials if you need them. And please be part of the renewal and wholeness of the body of Christ as the Church of the Brethren in year 300.

Ofrenda Especial de Pentecostés en Honor al 300mo (Tricentésimo) Aniversario de la Iglesia de los Hermanos

Estimados Pastores y Líderes de Iglesias:

“Les prometo nueva vida,” dice Dios, “un corazón nuevo y un espíritu nuevo.” (Ezequiel 36:26)

Así como el viento y el fuego del día de Pentecostés unieron y fortalecieron aún más a los seguidores de nuestro Señor Jesucristo a través del Espíritu de Dios, nosotros podemos hablar y trabajar unánimemente. De eso se trata precisamente esta ofrenda de Pentecostés en honor al 300mo Aniversario de la Iglesia. Se trata pues de celebrar y reunirnos en Cristo Jesús. ¡Es una ofrenda de todos nosotros para toda la iglesia del nuevo día!

La forma en que funcionará esta ofrenda especial es muy diferente a las que hemos recaudado recientemente. Una vez recibida la ofrenda, su congregación retendrá un tercio de la misma para los ministerios locales y, en un lapso de treinta días, enviará el resto a la Junta Directiva. Esta última reunirá todas las ofrendas procedentes de todas las iglesias del distrito y devolverá al distrito la mitad del total de los fondos recaudados (correspondiente al segundo tercio de la ofrenda) para su uso en los ministerios distritales. El tercio restante de las ofrendas recibidas, después de todos los gastos aplicables, se compartirá en cantidades varias con otros ministerios denominacionales.

Es nuestra oración, y esperamos en el Señor, que esta ofrenda refleje una vida nueva y una voz llena del Espíritu Santo dentro de la Iglesia de los Hermanos. Exhortamos a todas las congregaciones del país a participar en un 100% en esta ofrenda, ya sea $3, $30, $300 ó $3000 – para simbolizar los tres siglos de transformaciones y de continuar juntos la obra de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Es nuestra oración y esperanza que su participación refleje su nueva vida y la labor incansable de toda la iglesia. Los nuevos vientos de Pentecostés soplan a medida que entramos a este 4to siglo de labores. ¿Sienten ustedes la presencia del Espíritu de Dios?

En tal sentido, les rogamos que por favor exhorten a toda la congregación a participar y a utilizar nuestros materiales tanto en la adoración como en la recaudación de la ofrenda. Si necesitan más materiales por favor comuníquense con nosotros. Esperamos que participen en la renovación y plenitud del cuerpo de Cristo como la Iglesia de los Hermanos en su 300mo aniversario.
