The Endowment Funds

The endowment funds of the General Board have been uniquely tailored to meet the ongoing needs of the church's ministries, give institutional stability, and provide donors with support choices that match their sense of God's call and enable vital church work in the world.

What is an Endowment?

It is a gift fund, invested by an organization, from which only the investment earnings are used for its mission or ministry. This type of gift to the General Board assures long-term support of, and a firm foundation for, the ministries that you care about most deeply.

Why a Gift to Endowment?

“All of us are in debt to the past; we drink from wells we have not dug, enjoy liberties we have not won…. None of us is without benefit from those who have preceded us.”

This statement helps to better understand how important the link is between our past and our future. Certainly we have been blessed with many gifts from the early Brethren. At the same time, we are charged with ensuring a future for the generations that follow.

Ways to Give:

CASH - A cash gift to an endowment fund goes to work right away earning interest that supports ministries of the General Board and is in most cases fully tax deductible.

BEQUEST * - Giving through your will may consist of any accumulated assets you wish: cash, stocks, real estate, or other personal property. By naming a General Board endowment fund as a recipient, future ministries are enabled or enhanced.

CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITY * - This gift can make a contribution to the church, provide a guaranteed income for your life or that of another, and has tax benefits that vary with age and the assets give

CHARITABLE REMAINDER UNITRUST * - A trust can provide income to a donor or family member for life, remove taxable assets from an estate, and the remainder may be given to endowment support and continue the work of Jesus.

LIFE INSURANCE * - This is one of the most practical, powerful, and flexible of all charitable gifts. Insurance policy gifts provide substantial future gifts at relatively modest cost.

APPRECIATED PROPERTY – Giving real estate, valuable collections, or accumulated assets such as securities, can save capital gains taxes, increase gift values, and save the headaches of personally selling these assets.

* This gift makes a donor eligible for the Fourth Century Enrollment

Note: If endowed ministries are ever discontinued due to unforeseen circumstances, income from your endowment gift will be used for other ministries with the same or similar emphasis when possible.
