Elementary and Secondary Teachers are needed by Hillcrest School, a highly regarded K-12 Christian school. Positions related to wider Brethren mission in Nigeria. Elementary vocal music and secondary business education specifically needed. Teachers from other fields also considered, based on changing staff needs. Requirements: College degree and teaching credentials.

EYN Comprehensive Secondary School needs Secondary School Teachers. The school is a Christian school founded for the children of EYN members (Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria - Church of the Brethren in Nigeria), as well as other Christian denominations. Teachers are needed for biology, chemistry, physics, music, English, mathematics, and French. Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in the above subject and preferably a teaching license in the respective areas, dedicated, flexible, caring, energetic.

The Church of the Brethren Maine Ministries (Maine Home school Project) is seeking a Volunteer interested in making a difference in Home School families. It is our goal, through this project, to enhance and enrich home education by providing a teacher’s aide to support home schooling parents. The volunteer would travel among approximately ten homes each week helping to instruct students in a variety of subjects in grades K-12. Duties may include chaperoning field trip and library visits; administering quizzes and tests; aiding with science experiments; leading gym class; tutoring math; reading to pre-schoolers. Requirements: High school diploma, valid driver’s license, values education, flexible and energetic, enjoys working with children.
Open to BVS/BRF volunteers only.


1719. Alta Verapaz, Guatemala

Copal `AA` is located in the low land jungle of the Alta Verapez and Ixcan region of Guatemala is a returned refugee community to Guatemala from Mexico. The 80 plus families have suffered over 15 years of war, repression and refuge are now rebuilding their community and developing a middle and high school. Duties include assisting in the development of a middle and high school; developing an environmental science program for the school; fund raising; study school programs and curriculum form progressive Mayan centered schools. Requirements: Good physical condition, ability to live in remote and rustic setting, fluent in Spanish and willingness to learn Mayan language “Mam”, college degree or two years experience in education, community organizing and/or fund raising, historical and political knowledge of Guatemala.

International Community School (ICS) is a public (charter) elementary school in the Atlanta, Georgia area, serving the needs of refugee and local children. By federal standards, over 65% of the students qualify for free or reduced-cost lunch. Our vision is to “create a supportive community of students, staff and parents, learning from each other and celebrating the diversity among us. We seek to build and nurture the Beloved Community that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. worked for.” Our mission statement includes this sentence “The school explores and celebrates cultural differences in a challenging, nurturing and intentionally multi-ethnic environment.” ICS seeks a Teaching Assistant who will work with a grade-level teacher in the classroom, supervise recess and lunch and contribute to the work of the ICS After-School Program. Requirements: Must have a commitment to working with needy young children and their families, some experience with children in a school or a non-school setting, ability to speak a language other than English helpful.

Colegio Miguel Angel Asturias is an innovative nonprofit school located in Xela, providing eduction to children from the most vulnerable sectors of society. Teachers are needed for curriculum design and planning, office administration, development and volunteer coordinating. Requirements: Spanish fluency, interest and concern for the quality of education for marginalized children. Teaching background preferred.
