District IV Human Resources Development Council, a non-profit Community Action Agency, has been serving the Hi-Line region of North-Central Montana since 1965. The aim is to engage low-income families with the maximum opportunity to address their needs, envision their possibilities and live a productive life of dignity. We are seeking volunteers for (A) Facilities Maintenance Worker to renovate, repair, and maintain homes and HRDC facilities. Experience with carpentry and minor home repair required. Must have a driver’s license. Truck and tools provided. (B) Food Bank Assistant helps with the management and daily operations of the Havre Food Bank. Receive, sort, distribute food. Provide “over the counter” service to those in need of food. Maintain a clean facility and friendly environment. Duties are flexible according to the skills and interests of the volunteers. May take on a combination of the positions listed.

The Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Need has served clients in need in Frederick County since 1981. We have become the largest provider of emergency financial assistance in Frederick County. The Coalition is a faith based social service agency that includes a network of 90 churches. The Religious Coalition serves over 850 families per month through a network of seven food banks. The Coalition operates the largest homeless shelter and only emergency shelter in Frederick County. Two staff positions exist - The Ministry Coordinator and the Volunteer Coordinator both based at the Religious Coalition office. The Ministry Coordinator assists walk-in clients and those calling with emergency needs, maintains a client data base of services as well as assist in bookkeeping responsibilities at the office. The Volunteer Coordinator works with part-time volunteers at the office and at the new Day Shelter program for the homeless, coordinates the work of local food banks including food drives for the poor and assist in staffing a day shelter for the homeless, and works with churches in recruiting volunteers. Requirements: Good computer skills, committed to their faith and reaching out to their neighbor in need, good communication skills, experience in finance or bookkeeping is helpful, experience in managing volunteers or working in a social service program is helpful.

SERRV International is seeking Volunteers to work in the pricing and quality assurance department at its operations center located on the campus of the Brethren Service Center. It is an opportunity to work with staff and other volunteers to impact the lives of artisans in the developing world. SERRV’s goal is to alleviate poverty and empower low-income people through trade, training and other forms of community support as they work to improve their lives. SERRV has worked to assist artisans and farmers for more than 50 years by marketing their handcrafts and food projects in a just and direct manner; educating consumers in the United States about economic justice and other cultures; providing development assistance to low-income crafts people through their community-based organizations. Re: High school diploma, skill in recordkeeping, computer knowledge, understanding of ecumenical community, ability to work cooperatively, able to work with people of diverse background and skills, able to stand for long periods of time, lift up to 70 pounds, and in good physical condition.

Brethren Disaster Ministries, a program of the Church of the Brethren which repairs and rebuilds homes for survivors of natural disasters across the United States, is seeking a Disaster Project Assistant who would work at various domestic disaster recovery projects. The volunteer becomes part of the recovering community and helps to foster good relationships with short-term disaster response volunteers and the disaster survivors. The volunteer works closely with the Disaster Project Director for volunteer supervision, supply purchase, interagency relationships, general worksite coordination and household management. Requirements: Interpersonal skills, flexibility, willing to move around the country depending on assignment, willing to represent the Church of the Brethren and be a Christian witness, some construction skills helpful.
