1005. Union Victoria, Guatemala

Union Victoria Community in Popular Resistance (CPR) is in need of accompaniment. The community members of Union Victoria suffered over 15 years of persecution from the Guatemalan military and have recently settled to begin rebuilding their community and lives. An Accompanier is needed to live in solidarity with the community to offer a level of security through international presence. Various skills can be utilized such as education, sustainable agriculture, health, social work, and appropriate technology. Requirements: Must be able to live in remote area with rustic conditions, comfortable with community setting, strong interpersonal skills, basic Spanish ability required, desire to learn native Mayan language, previous Latin America experience necessary.

“Brot und Rosen,” an intentional Christian community of core members living in and around a house of hospitality for homeless refugees in need, seeks a Live-in Volunteer to share daily life and household duties of the community. Tasks include cooking, cleaning, weekly community meetings, answering phone and door, talking with the guests in the community. There are children living in the household (German and refugee), and the community would appreciate openness for children and in taking part at times in child-care duty. The volunteer is encouraged to participate in additional community activities and to seek another volunteer activity outside the community one day a week. Requirements: Basic knowledge of and willingness to learn German well, desire to live in ecumenical Christian multi-cultural community and participate in daily morning devotions, maturity, flexibility, ability to structure one's day in a community household, interest in peace and justice issues, acceptance of people of the Muslim faith (most of the house guests), male preferred.

1030. Colombia, South America

Global Mission Partnership of the Church of the Brethren in partnership with the Fellowship of Reconciliation USA and the Peace Communities of Colombia, seek an experienced Volunteer in human rights and accompaniment work. The assignment involves urgently needed accompaniment and human rights monitoring in conflict zones of Colombia. The volunteer will be part of a team in coordination with the Fellowship of Reconciliation USA in one of 50 designated nonviolent Peace Communities. Duties include violence reduction through international accompaniment, weekly communication and reporting to the USA, writing, monitoring, and analysis of human rights abuses, and educational speaking tours. The volunteer is also encouraged to share personal skills as needed in the community such a tutoring, agriculture, health, or construction. The volunteer will participate in a two week nonviolent training course through the Fellowship Reconciliation in the USA for final preparation and acceptance into the Colombia program. Requirements: Assignment requires a high level of maturity and experience, good physical and mental health, a minimum of six months previous Latin America experience and Spanish fluency. Previous exposure in conflict zones (ie: peace delegation, etc) is strongly preferred.
