Camp Courageous of Iowa, is a year-round recreation and respite care facility that annually serves nearly 5000 people with disabilities. Camp Courageous provides campers of all ages and abilities the opportunity to experience a variety of activities including canoeing, swimming, climbing, caving, archery, and horseback riding. Camp Courageous seeks help in a variety of areas, including Counselors responsible for scheduling and supervising all camp experiences for his or her assigned group of campers and to provide for the care, safety and well-being of those campers. Nursing Assistant assist with preparing camper’s medical service records, administer medication/treatments to campers and staff as designated, and more. Maintenance/Housekeeping Assistant to help maintain the camp’s facilities and grounds. Dietary Assistant to assist in providing food service for campers. Requirements: Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, high school diploma or equivalent, college degree in related field helpful, motivated, responsible, willing to obtain first aid/CPR, lifeguard training certification, high energy.

Brethren Woods Camp and Retreat Center, the Shenandoah District’s church camp, needs an Assistant to enhance all aspects of the Outdoor Ministries program. Duties are somewhat flexible according to the interests and skills of the volunteer, but may include various cleaning, maintenance, grounds, clerical and administrative functions. Assist Program Director in developing and implementing programs, function as a counselor, crafts director, nature director, lifeguard, activity leader or maintenance during the summer program, Lead various programs such as crafts, nature, adventure, hiking and canoe trips, bible study, special dinners and camp promotion. Assist in recruiting volunteer and hired staff, promote Outdoor Ministries in area churches, help to enforce camp policies and rules, host rental groups. Requirements 18 years or older, high school diploma, flexible, willing to preform cleaning tasks routinely, self-starter, works well alone and with others, able to perform physical work.

Camp Mack, a Church of the Brethren summer camp and year-round retreat center, seeks a volunteer to assist in all areas of the operations ministry. The camp is willing to work at placement in a position that uses the skills of the volunteer. (A) Hospitality: prepare facilities prior to group arrival and clean-up following their departure. Work would include vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, moving furniture, and set-up of seating and conference space. (B) Program: during Brethren programming, may work as a counselor and lead workshops or elective sessions. Sessions would include conflict resolution, environmental issues, indigenous issues and peace and justice. Additional tasks my include presentations to Sunday School groups and other groups. (C) Facility Work: work on various projects to maintain the grounds, facilities and equipment of Camp Mack. Work would include raking, mowing, weeding, carpentry and painting. (D) Food Service: work on preparation, serving and clean-up of meals and snacks. Work would include assisting in food preparation, serving of food, cleaning of dining areas, and dish room responsibilities. Requirements: Willingness to work as part of a team, ability to work with people and co-workers from various faith perspectives, ability to be self-disciplined and to maintain a positive mental attitude in times of stress, working knowledge of/or involvement in the Church of the Brethren, must be capable of being physically active, experience with children in a Sunday School, school or camp setting.

Camp Myrtlewood, a Church of the Brethren year-round camp and retreat center, needs a Camp Assistant to help with cleaning, building maintenance, kitchen detail (cooking and cleanup), recycling program, provide hospitality, connect with local Native American community and environmental groups. Requirements: Flexible, valid driver’s license, good communication skills, love outdoors, ability to do physically demanding work, able to be “on your feet” for long periods of time, willing to do a variety of jobs (construction, mechanical, computer).
