Comfort House Services, Inc. (a 10-bed residence for the terminally illsome with AIDSwho are homeless or whose families cannot care for them at home), seeks a Care Giver to assist with hospice-type care for residents, give medications for pain control lend support to their families/loved ones, do general household work. Requirements: Good physical health, maturity, initiative, compassion, respect for other’s beliefs, Spanish and medical knowledge helpful.

Holy Family Birth Center is a freestanding birth center offering a full range of maternity services from pregnancy test through six weeks postpartum for the mother and 15 months of well-baby exams. The majority of the clients are Hispanic and poor. HFBC has a history of more than 20 years of having volunteers on the staff. There is a staff of 10 long-term staff and nine volunteers. There is a simple life style community living. The volunteer positions are (A) Register Nurses to do full scope maternal and newborn care. There are outpatient office visits, teaching childbirth classes, assisting a woman in labor, caring for mother and baby immediately postpartum, home visits and assisting with well-child visits. Requirements: Female, dedicated to serving the poor, able to speak minimal Spanish, hardworking, willing to participate in communal living, able to obtain a Texas nursing license. New graduates are welcome. (B) Office Staff and Driver to provide transportation for clients who need it, substituting in the front office as a receptionist, assisting with basic office work and computer work, filing and simple financial record keeping. Requirements: Female, able to speak minimal Spanish (no need to read or write in Spanish), outgoing and friendly, high school diploma. (C) General Handy Person who is able-bodied and generous with some skills in minor repairs and car maintenance. Duties include keeping the physical plant in good running order, yard maintenance, maintaining the fleet of cars used for the work of the birth center. Requirements: Comfortable with giving assignments to local persons who volunteer and supervising their work, able to speak minimal Spanish. Will accept a young female or a mature, beyond middle aged man. Valid driver’s license is required. High school education or special technical training.
