AmeriCorps - Education Awards

AmeriCorps Logo

The Catholic Network of Volunteer Service receives a grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service, which operates AmeriCorps, to offer education awards to volunteers from faith based agencies such as Brethren Volunteer Service. Some BVS projects qualify as AmeriCorps sites, and the BVSers there can be registered as AmeriCorps members.

Existing student loans can be held in forbearance and the interest accrued may be paid for by AmeriCorps following your term of service.

If you are a United States citizen and doing direct service work - meaning your time is spent working first-hand with people - then you may qualify. Such BVS/AmeriCorps members serve at existing BVS projects, and following the completion of their BVS term of service, they can receive an education award for up to $4,725.00. The amount of the award depends on the number of hours served. This award can be used toward an existing school loan or to pay for future schooling and must be used within seven years.

The following projects may have volunteer assignments that qualify for AmeriCorps membership. Other projects may qualify for an AmeriCorps award. Ask BVS staff for details.
