It was the original campus of Calvert College established in 1849, became New Windsor
College in 1873 and was operated as Blue Ridge College from 1913 until 1943. The property
was purchased by the Church of the Brethren in 1944 as a relief center to ship material resources
to war-torn Europe. Organizations at the Brethren Service Center continue to help those in need around the world.
