Refugee Resettlement Through its involvement with the ecumenical community, namely Church World Service and the Immigration Refugee Program, Brethren Disaster Ministries is an advocate for refugees around the world. These efforts include working with members of the U.S. Congress and the United Nations. Church World Service maintains an office in Washington D.C., as a presence in that arena when issues related to refugees are dealt with by the federal government. More information is available from Dot Ivey of CWS at 202-544-2375. In recent years an Advocacy Day was held in Liberia and a Campaign for Refugee Protection was launched. An effort was made to mobilize church constituencies to bring about reform of some immigration laws. The issue of asylum laws was also dealt with, in an effort to deal with related issues. A third issue dealt with was that of returnees. Visits were made to Croatia, Bosnia, and Herzegovina in an effort to assist those who were returning to those countries.
