Faith formation (Christian education)
“Like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” I Peter 2:5 (NRSV) “We do not acquire information about God but skills in faith.” Eugene Peterson, A Long Obedience in the Same Direction Following Jesus entails so much more than learning and thinking. For the Brethren, both of yesterday and today, the life of discipleship includes a warmed heart, a transformed mind, and life lived in imitation of Christ. Our participation in the local congregation grounds the formation of our whole Christian life. So our worship, our service, and our study of God’s story shape us as individuals and congregations into Christ-like witnesses. Through teaching and example, adults in households and the congregation have the joy, privilege, and responsibility to nurture Christian faith in our children and youth. Gather 'Round: Hearing and Sharing God's Good News is one tool our denominations offer for Christian formation in children, youth, and adults. This curriculum can help individuals and church communities to grow in love for God and others as we worship, learn, witness, and serve. This and other materials are available from Brethren Press.
