Good Samaritan Services gives immediate help to people who are experiencing homelessness, and helps those at risk of becoming homeless, by providing stability, restoring their hope, and transforming lives.
Volunteers will be given the opportunity to work hand in hand with the women and children in the Emergency Shelter program. Guests turn to GSS when they have run out of options and have found themselves and their children in a homeless situation. Volunteers will be able to encourage, empower, and show love to the guests everyday by attending program events in the evening with our guests, working with volunteers from the community, ensuring safety in the shelter, organizing donations in the food and clothing bank, doing office work in the day, and providing temporary childcare. With Christian faith central to their work and drawing on compassion, GSS responds to the needs of individuals and families in crisis with generosity. To make a lasting impact, GSS works in partnership with individuals and community groups, exercises thoughtful stewardship over the resources it has been given, and expresses gratitude for all the help received and shared. Volunteers with GSS should possess these characteristics: faith, compassion, generosity, partnership, stewardship, and gratitude. Volunteers should also be eager to learn and willing to show compassion to the people they serve.
