ABODE Services at Sunrise Village Emergency Shelter provides transitional shelter and comprehensive support services to single adults and families with children who are experiencing homelessness. Abode’s mission is to identify and coordinate ways to service homeless persons by helping them move toward the goals of independence, self-help, and the ability to seek, enter, and maintain stable housing.
(A) Shelter Monitors to provide direct services to program residents at Sunrise Village. Responsibilities include staffing the front desk, engaging with donors and volunteers, answering phones, enforcing program guidelines, informally counseling residents, managing chores, and completing data entry. Shelter Monitors ensure that the facility is safe, clean, and well-maintained. Sunrise Village is a 24-hour shelter, and volunteers will work some evenings and weekends to fit program needs.
Volunteers should be at least 19 years old and have computer skills, flexibility, sensitivity, and an understanding of good customer service skills.
(B) An Assistant Kitchen Coordinator to work directly with the kitchen coordinator to maintain the operations of the kitchen and dining room at Sunrise Village. Tasks include ensuring that all procedures for kitchen and food safety are maintained, that supplies are stocked, and that equipment is operational. This position assists with quality control and inventory of food, the resident lunch bag program, and the support of group volunteers.
The volunteer should be at least 19 years old with flexibility and an understanding of good customer service skills. SafeServe training is required and will be provided by Abode Services. Volunteers will need to work some weekends to fit project needs.Read more
