BVS placements are available at some of the many L'Arche communities in Europe.Website: http://www.larcheireland.org/dublin
L'Arche Dublin is a thriving and busy community that welcomes assistants from all over the world to come and share their life with the Core Members. Assistants enjoy the challenge of learning new skills and getting the opportunity to be trained and equipped to deal with the daily routines of the core members, most of whom are wheelchair users and all of whom have high levels of medical need. As well as a Management and Health Care Team , L’Arche Dublin has two Nurses who offer ongoing support and supervision. This would be an ideal placement for volunteers looking for medical or nursing experience.
L’Arche Dublin consists of three houses with eight “Core Members” (residents) who have an intellectual disability and are currently living in the community. The community is located in a beautiful scenic spot on the coast, with the sea only a few minutes’ walk from the house and the city of Dublin a short journey by train or bus. Local shops, coffee shops and pubs are easily reached on foot.
The role of volunteers includes building relationships of mutual trust and care with all those with whom you live and work; participate fully in team meetings, support and supervision meetings, and formation sessions; and give appropriate care and respectful support to core members around areas of personal hygiene and health, clothing choice and laundry, administration of prescribed medication, and the provision of First Aid. Duties will include the full range of quasi nursing / social care with a wide range of service users presenting with intellectual disability and complex medical needs.
