Horton’s Kids empowers children living in one of Washington, DC’s most under-resourced communities and prepares them to graduate from high school ready for college, career, and life. Through our onsite Community Resource Center, located just steps from where the children live, we offer research-based programs in three areas of focus: academic, youth development, and health and basic needs.
Horton’s Kids seeks a Community Center and Programs Coordinator to support program staff in running our daily after-school and evening programs for students in grades K-7. This will include assisting with homework help and ensuring students follow the program rules and structure. The volunteer will support our nightly tutoring programs through chaperoning the children to and from the tutoring site, providing support to tutors and staff, and ensuring program rules and expectations are followed. When programs with students are not taking place, the volunteer will play an integral role in helping staff members with entering data, planning events for students, and interacting with families to share information about their child’s progress in our program. This role includes both night and weekend hours and requires some lifting, cleaning, and physical activity.
The volunteer should be a highly motivated, English proficient, college graduate who is interested in working with at-risk youth and families. He/she will need to pass all necessary background checks required to work with children in the District of Columbia.
