The Family Abuse Center is the domestic violence program for Central Texas, including the city of Waco and the six surrounding counties. Our services include a 60 bed shelter (which houses men, women, and children). All clients must be victims of domestic violence. The average stay is 21 days. We provide three meals a day, two snacks, counseling, case management, group counseling, legal assistance, and access to community resources that empower the victims to start new lives. We also provide non-residential services with a Supportive Living Program (year long), counseling, and other systems. Resident Advocates are front line service providers in the shelter. They answer crisis calls, provide meals, assist clients with their needs to provide a safe and healing environment in the shelter, provide front desk coverage as needed and other duties as assigned. The Resident Advocates may work overnight and/or on weekends as well as Family Abuse Center is a 24-hour shelter.
