BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Originally known as the Mohawk Valley Church, located on an isolated part of the Willamette River Valley in Oregon, the Mabel church existed from 1887 - 1950. The church was formed in July 24, 1887 when the Workman family moved into the area and gained permission from the Lebanon congregation to meet as a separate congregation. In 1895, the community built a meetinghouse. The following year, Elder Phillip Workman began to lead the church, which continued for the next thirty years. On March 24, 1917 the church voted to change its name to the Mabel Church of the Brethren. In November of 1950, under the leadership of Elder H.H. Ritter, the church decided to disband with nine members who transferred their letters of membership.
