BRETHREN HISTORICAL LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES
Title: Gwendolyn F. Bobb Papers
Series: 18/
Boxes: 2 records center cartons, 1 4x6 index card box
History: Gwendolyn F. Bobb (1915- ) was employed in 1959 by the Church of the Brethren General Board as an administrative assistant for Ministry and Home Missions. After denominational reorganization in 1969, Bobb became the administrative assistant to the General Services Commission. Later, in 1977, she managed the Brethren Historical Library and Archives with the official title of Coordinator of Historical Resources. She retired in 1979. Upon her retirement, Bobb was free to pursue her genealogical research. She was an active part of the Fellowship of Brethren Genealogists (FOBG), serving terms as the executive director of the FOBG and as the secretary-treasurer. She also wrote numerous articles for the FOBG newsletter. Bobb was involved in several different genealogical societies and researched extensively the Bobb and Emmert family names.
Description of the Records: These records contain a variety of different materials. The records arrived in a state of disarray; the order was imposed by the processor. There are two distinct subsets. The first are records related to Gwendolyn Bobbs work with the Fellowship of Brethren Genealogists. These include plans for Annual Conference, research on various Brethren topics, articles and newsletters, and correspondence with members of the FOBG. The second subset of records consists of Bobbs own research on the Emmert and Bobb families. These records include a file card set of information, family sheets, notes, and correspondence. Two file folders on Norman Baugher are also included in her personal research.
Provenance: Received from Gwendolyn F. Bobb, via Elsie Holderread. Accession number 2001.056.
Restrictions: None
Separations: There were many loose items that were separated. Pamphlets were removed to the pamphlet collection. Short family histories were placed in the biography files under the names Abshire and Allig. A letter from D.A. Norcross was placed in his biographical file. Journeys and Horizon magazines were discarded. Pictures of the Germantown church and portraits of Aaron Bobb and Gwen Bobb were placed in photo files. Negatives for the Aaron Bobb pictures were placed in the BHLA negative collection under number PN 102-4. A slide from the 1981 Annual Conference was placed in the subject photo files. FOBG newsletters were placed with the newsletter collection. Three books were removed: The Centennial History of the Peach Blossom Congregation of the Church of the Brethren 1881-1981, The Gem of Lordsburg, and The ULV Trivia Book. Several short congregational histories were placed in the congregational files, including one for the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren in Wisconsin. Duplicates were discarded. Some empty file folders were discarded, but a list of the names on the discarded folders is found in Box 2.
