| Volunteers reroof a house in Pulaski, VA following tornadoes. |
Two devastating tornadoes tore through Pulaski County, VA on April 8, causing severe damage to the small towns of Pulaski and Draper. The twin twisters destroyed approximately 69 homes and damaged more than 350 others, while uprooting trees and leveling outbuildings.
Brethren Disaster Ministries is responding with volunteer teams to completely rebuild homes that were destroyed. This project opened in mid-August 2011.
Volunteer housing for this project is in the fellowship hall of the First Christian Church, 524 N. Jefferson Avenue, Pulaski, VA 24301. The dormitory style men’s and women’s sleeping areas are separated by partitions. Bathrooms for both men and women are located in this same building. Shower facilities are located in a shower trailer on the premises. Volunteers need to bring their own bedding, pillows, towels, etc.

Meals are prepared in a fully equipped fellowship hall kitchen and shared in the dining area. Please note that volunteer groups are asked to include an assistant cook.
Volunteers are engaged in four new builds from the ground up in the towns of Pulaski and Draper. It would be very helpful for each group to include at least a few skilled builders. Tools and project leadership are provided by BDM.
