The Older Adult Ministry is guided by a cabinet of volunteers. Members include:

Deanna Brown – After 24 years serving as pastor in congregational and campus settings, Deanna is currently leading retreats in the areas of spirituality, grief and loss, and life transitions. Deanna brings to the cabinet a graced awareness of the gifts of older adults in the life of our congregations and world and a passion for creatively marking life transitions/passages through worship and community gatherings.

William Cave – Bill has been Director of Social Services for the past 26 years at Lebanon Valley Brethren Home in Palmyra, PA. He also teaches courses in gerontology at Evangelical School of Theology in Myerstown, PA and at the Lebanon Campus of Harrisburg Area Community College. wcave@lvbh.org


Mary Cline Detrick – Mary is pastor of the Daleville (Va.) Church of the Brethren in Virlina District. She is also founder and owner of "Conscious Choices," offering personal and professional growth workshops on a variety of issues, and was a founding member of "Another Voice" in the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren, a group of senior adults who are using their life experience and passion for peace and justice to be creative and persistent "gadflys" in their congregation. Sonja (Sherfy) Griffith – Sonja is pastor for First Central Church of the Brethren and Lenexa Fellowship, both in the Kansas City area. She was, for the majority of her life, a public health and community health nurse, with an MS in Public Health Nursing. She has a passion for older adult and cross cultural ministries as avenues to bring new life to the church. She will be taking a sabbatical in Fall 2005 to write about the church's response to elderhood, especially when frailty and dependence become realities of the end of earthly life. fccob@planetkc.com


Myrna Long Wheeler – As a chaplain at Hillcrest Retirement Community in La Verne, Calif., Myrna designs spiritual opportunities for all levels of care; helps residents with end-of-life issues; facilitates small groups in issues of grief, separation, stroke survival, Bible study and meditation. She is the minister to Seniors at the La Verne Church of the Brethren as part of her responsibilities at Hillcrest. Her desire is to help local congregations design ministry programs for their elders. MWheeler@hillcresthomes.org
