Approximately 55 percent of our members are 50 years of age and older. What is our congregational ministry with older adults? What are we teaching our children and youth about honoring that increasingly large group of older adults in our communities and churches? In fact, what are the children, youth and young adults learning about their own aging? How are districts and congregations working together with the Church of the Brethren retirement centers and nursing homes in their area?
The materials in this packet underscore an important truth: Aging is everyone's issue not just an issue for older adults. Aging is increasingly on the agenda of our churches, our educational institutions, our communities, commercial and industrial groups, television and Web sites. With the Baby Boomer age wave ready to crest, it is important to ask: How are we approaching our aging? Will we perpetuate the stereotypes that our culture has encouraged over the years? Will we find new and innovative ways to understand our aging spiritually, emotionally and socially?
To help congregations look at these concerns, this packet offers a variety of resources that develop the theme Aging as a Journey.
Each resource is available as a web page and as a printer-friendly Adobe Acrobat PDF file. To view or print the PDF, you must have the free Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer.
